You can imagine she doesn’t watch out for the phone’s ring as often as she used to. She’d immersed herself in practice, just like months and months back when debut was nearing. Partly because the person she anticipated to call or text did it less due to busy schedules and such. Then there’s the fact that this era felt a lot more like her group’s debut rather than their actual launch. Activities were more prevalent with photoshoots, interviews, and an increase on TV appearances. She’d even taken a shot MC-ing for the first time. What felt like an extension of trainee years just a week ago was starting to feel a lot more like the start up on the career she envisioned. But it didn’t mean she acted like a celebrity just yet.

So with all that said, when her phone went off buzzing in the middle of practice, she doesn’t notice right away. In comes the break the group agreed upon within themselves and she doesn’t even rush to get to her phone. Instead she sits down to take her water bottle and drinks from it. Only then did her eyes fall to glance at the dark screen of her phone. She nonchalantly scoops it up and finds a notification that she checks as she expects it to be a text from their manager, a staff, or Chahee if this wasn’t business-related.

The moment she presses play and hears this familiar voice, this was her initial thought: This is what the Haneuls have been up to - showily and flamboyantly commending her. It must be something to do with the name. Maybe Haneul, by hanja definition, actually meant a promoter who knows how to hype a friend. And even though she’s specifically marketing for the older audience (meaning it doesn’t exactly help the group win in anything because of the generation’s lack of use in technology and social media), Jennie was grateful. The emotion manifests in laughter since the message as a whole was just adorable to her.

[ voicemail: penny lane ] “Unnie! Omo… maybe you can? I’ll play you a crappy piano piece of it so you can use it? Just kidding. I don’t know how. Heol! Listen to another catchy song? It solves one problem but then it’ll be a viscous cycle of trying to stop listening to the next addictive song. But heh, teach the halmeonis our dance, too! Thank you very much! This means a lot.”
