Before his departure from the company, duffel bag slung over his shoulder and mask hiding mischievous intentions he slides the small package into the room where BLACKPINK rehearsals are soon to start up in the morning. She’s resting ( hopefully ), that’s good. Inside is a small notepad, maybe 150 pages, probably the size of his palm, purple and leather bound with a small note written on the first page.
’Hey little sis, things are tough huh? Oppa can’t really be there to help out aigoo. I promised to watch over you and we’re both too out of this world to keep each other grounded. That’s cool, I know you have someone keeping a close eye on you. This is just…..so the little things you don’t have time to run to your room and write down, you can do it on the go! Signed with a small duck and a heart, the notebook tucks safely into the folder and into the room with her name scribbled on the top. He can’t do much but he wants to do something.
It comes as a surprise. There’s gifts sent by fans, it wasn’t anything unusual but when it’s directly found within the premises of the building, with no one notifying her, and conveniently having it on their practice room, she’s taken aback. Why go through that much trouble? She wonders. In a way, it was overwhelming as it has been for the past month with their promotions and the warm welcome they’ve gotten from fans. She figures it must be someone from the company. A staff showing gratitude, perhaps? A label-mate? Who? She spends some time brooding over it before she opens, brows curved down and forming a crease on her forehead. Most everyone she could think of were overseas. But uncovering the package, a grin adorns her face instantly.
Of course, it’s her oppa. The thoughtful one who makes a fool out of himself to cheer up little sister Jennie. Now he does something endearing like this. He truly does embody what a big brother is. Not that she would know as she’s never had the luxury of having one. Only in a dream, she could. At least not until Minho. But that’s exactly what she’s grateful for. Because of him, she’s gained an idea of what it’s like to have an older brother that looks out for you, takes care of you, and supports you through whatever. She’s always wished for someone like him in her life (even though she was more inclined in having a younger sibling).
A cheeky smile stretches along her lips as her eyes dart at the little doodles symbolic to the sunbae slash oppa. A duck and a heart, no doubt a trademark. Onto reading the message’s contents, how heartfelt it was leaves her in awe and gets her clutching her chest, then a small pout as she continues to read. She hesitantly nods at the first line, tip of her thumb’s nail stuck in between her teeth. Fair enough, she’s shared a bit of her thoughts and what bothered her which she figures was the reason for this extra gesture in the first place. All to cheer her up. How much more sentimental could he be. And she appreciates that. She appreciates him showing it as well since he wasn’t that much different with keeping to himself.
You know there’s thought into the gift because it’s something Jennie would want close. A small journal was convenient, whenever she had something to write and especially when she had things she wasn’t comfortable sharing. So, her first entry, she immediately writes with him in her thoughts and it reads;
I wish I could give back just as much as everyone does for me but I have nothing, in fact sometimes I’m even a burden ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ I worry about jiyong oppa still. my oppa who always watches out for me that I can’t even protect. but today… I guess, I’ll try to be more positive! because today, I had this gift received from mino oppa ^u^ he must miss winner a lot already but I hope he’s always smiling and happy, and resting if he can. it’s ironic his nickname is ‘elsa’ because he’s a warm lil bun =u= and he’s one of the reasons this light in me can’t be dimmed. the reason it keeps shining, along with many others. i’m thankful. really, really thankful. and with this, I’ll have my reveries and woes in notes. lyrics, too! if inspiration comes. this made me so happy. I hope he knows how much it helps. ♡
As she closes the purple notepad, there’s a sigh that’s subconsciously done in the sheer wonderstruck. She realizes she should let him know at least what she’d thought of it and so with a text.
